A CURE for Asthma & COPD??

Take a deep breath. Feels good, doesn't it?

Except when you can't.

In 2010 my husband Kevin deployed to Afghanistan. Air quality over there is bad to start with, and it was made worse by the fact that the army base was burning ALL of its waste. My husband was breathing toxic fumes daily.

A lot of soldiers came home with breathing difficulties, including Kevin.

He began having asthma attacks when smoke got into our house from the wood stove, when he exercised in the cold (and sometimes not-so-cold), or when air quality was bad due to pollen or wildfires. Usually an inhaler would fix it, but there were times that it took him a few days to get over a bad attack.

I say asthma, but it was actually COPD, according to his diagnosis. The two diseases are very similar. They differ in age of onset, cause, and possibility of being healed, but it's basically the same thing. Asthma tends to occur in younger people, is exacerbated by environmental irritants, and might go away with age. COPD happens later in life, is caused by breathing toxins, and gets worse with age.

Since he had COPD, it should not have gone away.

But it did.

He hasn't had an asthma attack in months. When air quality was bad this spring because of pollen or wildfires, he didn't notice. Exercise is a breeze (pun intended). He refinished our kitchen counters and filled the house with dust from sanding, and guess who was bothered by the air quality... ME, not HIM. If it was bad enough to bother me, back before he healed, it would have sent him gasping!

What healed him?

It was a combination of a few factors.

The Milk Cure

I wrote an entire blog about Kevin doing the milk cure, so I will only touch on the highlights here.

The milk cure was developed over the 3 decade career of Dr. Charles Sanford Porter, back in the early 1900's. In a nutshell, he found that practically any chronic disease could be healed by putting the patient on bed rest and having them drink large amounts of raw milk for about a month. The body wants to heal itself, and given time to rest and the copious nutrition provided by large amounts of raw milk, it can and will do just that.

The draw back of the milk cure is that most people can't afford to stay in bed for 4 weeks because life is too demanding. Kevin had just retired, so he was able to do the bed rest.

At the end of the month of following the milk cure protocol, he was not 100% better, but he felt significantly better--like, maybe 80%. It's hard to quantify, but it definitely made a big dent in his symptoms.

That was about 6 months ago...

Nettle Tea

When I told a friend that Kevin was doing the milk cure for asthma, she shared with me that her nephew had healed himself of bad hives, asthma, and allergies by drinking nettle tea.

Nettle is a powerful herb. It has antihistamine and anti inflammatory properties. It promotes soothing of the entire body--joints, gut, skin, urinary tract, respiratory... Anyone with chronic allergies or asthma should be taking it.

In my own health journey, I have found that when you alleviate one problem (such as inflamed gut), the body is able to fix itself in other ways (such as skin problems). It's all connected. When your body stops fighting a battle on one front, that directly impacts other systems. The body is able to spend its energy on other problems, and the body's systems can support each other better. So it makes sense that if nettle tea is able to significantly soothe one system, the entire organism will be healthier.

Her nephew drank a quart of tea made from 1 cup of dried leaves every day for a year. It worked for him.

Immediately after finishing the milk cure, Kevin began drinking nettle tea at that same dosage, and after a few months, reduced it to a half cup of herb per day because he was feeling so good. At the time of writing this blog, about 6 months into it, he has stopped drinking the tea because he seems to be completely better.

Nettle tea tastes pretty good.

Acupuncture

After finishing the milk cure, Kevin also began seeing an acupuncturist. (She is fantastic, by the way, let me know if you want her contact info!)

I love acupuncture. I don't understand how it works, but I know that it works. It supports energy flowing throughout the body so that the body can heal itself.

If you have never done acupuncture, you might be afraid of the needles. Believe me, there is nothing to be afraid of. They are about as thick as a hair, and most of the time you barely feel them. It's fun to lie there, once the needles are in place, and feel energy pathways that had been clogged open up and start flowing. Better than going to a spa.

At first he went every other week, for about 6 sessions, and then slowed to once a month. It took 3 or 4 months, but she now says that his lungs are happy.

My husband and son out working on an oppressively hot day. He couldn't have done that before he healed.

Diet and Life Style

Pre-retirement, Kevin lived a healthy lifestyle compared to the average American. I make sure that he eats well, and he got a reasonable amount of exercise. He has never smoked, drunk alcohol, or done any recreational drugs.

Now that he's retired, though, he doesn't sit at a desk all day. He doesn't stop at gas stations frequently and grab junk food snacks (that I never approved of!). And he doesn't have the stress of his job. He has lost some weight since retiring because his body is healthier. I've got him fasting once a week, and eating in a window daily, which is a great trigger for turning on the body's self healing capabilities.

He probably could have healed his COPD if he was still working, but, he would have had all of those impediments working against him. If you are trying to heal a chronic illness, take into account every stress factor: physical, emotional, and mental. Change daily habits that are not promoting your whole well being. Retirement is a good time for that, but you could achieve it while working full time if you were dedicated.

Synergy

In summary, there is not a set formula for curing asthma or COPD. It was a combination of all these factors that allowed Kevin's body to heal itself.

If you can't take off a month from work to do the milk cure, perhaps you would find healing by drinking nettle tea for a year, doing acupuncture, fasting regularly, and making sure that you eat only really clean food.

The human body is an amazing creation. It is wise and knows how to fix itself if given the right conditions. If you are dedicated to doing everything in your power, you will heal!
