Maple Custard Recipe

Make dessert easy with only 4 whole food ingredients.

This custard has a texture like flan. It is just sweet enough without being too sweet.

Ingredients
2 cups raw milk (from the top of the jar where it's creamiest)
4 eggs
1/4 cup maple syrup
4 tsp vanilla extract
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350F. If you have the choice between a larger oven and a smaller oven (if your range has two ovens), use the bigger one to keep the heat of the coils farther from the custard. This will help keep it tender.

Prepare a water bath by boiling water in a medium sized pot. Find a larger dish (for the water bath) that can hold hot water around a smaller dish with a 5 - 6 cup capacity (for the custard) nested in it.
Mix all ingredients in a blender.
Grease the smaller dish. Pour the milk and egg mixture into it, then place the smaller dish into the larger dish. Pour boiling water into the outer dish, as much as it can safely contain without spilling when you move it.
Wear gloves to ensure that you don't splash hot water on your hands. Place the custard and its hot water bath into the oven for 45 - 50 minutes, or until a knife or toothpick inserted comes out clean. Tip: you know that egg dishes are done when they are fully domed in the center.
Remove dishes from oven. Take the custard dish out of its water bath and allow the custard to mostly cool before serving.
